Pillar Consulting Group's structural engineers have the expertise to design and analyze all common building structural systems and materials.
Our background includes working with reinforced concrete, post-tensioned flat slabs, precast and tilt-up concrete, structural steel, masonry, heavy timber, cold formed steel and wood framing. The importance of solid analysis and constructible design of structural systems is well understood by knowledgeable architects, engineers, owners, contractors and developers. Pillar Consulting has been involved with hundreds of new structures ranging from downtown mixed-use buildings to industrial facilities. In addition to new construction, we have performed seismic rehabilitation work, repaired wind and snow damaged structures, investigated building component failures and acted as structural engineer-of-record on numerous remodels and additions to commercial and industrial facilities. Advanced training and software extends our capabilities into areas of specialization that include blast-resistant design of buildings and structures, API tank design, and analysis of complex systems under severe loading utilizing linear and non-linear methods.
We have the expertise and resources to tackle virtually any structural engineering challenge, and we welcome projects requiring non-conventional solutions and creativity, whether large or small in size and scope. Our structural services include:
Heavy equipment often requires designed foundations in order to prevent settlement issues, overturning and excessive vibrations. Our office has designed foundations for buildings and equipment using multiple techniques including spread footings, mat slabs, drilled piers, driven piles, rock anchors and helical piers.Learn More
Our office has designed a number of bridges carrying vehicles, pipes and pedestrians from point A to point B. This 81’ bridge was designed to allow for offsite fabrication and easy installation.Learn More
Our office did an extensive survey of the existing building, existing equipment and other existing infrastructure such as piping, conduit and ducting. We then coordinated the team which consisted of the owner, robot designer, conveyor designer, electrical engineer and HVAC engineer to come up with a layout that worked for all parties. After finding a layout, we went to work on structural engineering using moment frames in an open frame structure to support the moving conveyor loads.Learn More
In order to allow for new loads imposed by cranes, the existing pre-engineered metal building needed to be analyzed and retrofitted. Our office worked with the plant to come up with options that were economical and that worked with their internal work flow.Learn More
Pillar Consulting Group was the Engineer-of-Record for the expansion of an investment casting facility. Structural engineering on the PEMB portion of the job included foundations and anchorage, but the total structural engineering job extended to many ancillary buildings, structures, bridges and equipment foundations.Learn More
The Whiteside Theatre Foundation acquired this historic theatre with the purpose of preservation. Pillar Consulting Group provided a preliminary seismic review to help identify potential seismic deficiencies and worked with the Foundation to develop a mitigation strategy.Learn More
Pillar Consulting Group provided structural engineering services for this 6-story high-end commercial building in downtown Corvallis, OR. The building uses micro-piles and a combination of braced frames and masonry shear walls for its lateral system.Learn More
Pillar Consulting Group provided civil and structural engineering services for this downtown mixed-use development. The first floor commercial space uses concrete columns and walls to support a 2-way mild reinforced concrete podium slab. The upper residential floors are wood-framed with heavy timber framing at exterior corridors.Learn More
When Laticrete wanted to build a new manufacturing plant in Lebanon, Oregon, they turned to a design-build team with experience. Pillar Consulting Group worked with the land owner, facility owner, city and contractor to complete this 80,000 square foot facility in less than 6 months.Learn More
Faced with a mandate to address seismic safety in a building over 90 years old, the owner turned to Pillar Consulting Group for assistance. We developed an investigation, testing and rehabilitation scheme to upgrade this URM building without displacing the building tenants.Learn More
Pillar Consulting Group was retained to investigate the structural safety of four aging bulk-material silos supported on structural steel towers at an industrial facility. Using advanced finite element analysis, Pillar zeroed in on not only potential problems, but solutions to keep our client's facility up and running.Learn More
When the owner approached our design-build team needing two hazardous industrial occupancy buildings designed within eight weeks, Pillar Consulting Group delivered. Working closely with the contractor to develop structural framing solutions which could be executed in a fast-track manner, our team successfully completed the design on schedule.Learn More
The building owner came to Pillar with the goals of raising the roof, providing a new façade, and upgrading the seismic system, without building a new building. Pillar’s solution was to remove the existing roof and exterior walls, strengthen the existing 2nd floor framing and put in new exterior walls and a roof system approximately 3’ higher than the existing. The owner was very pleased with the improved look and function of his building.Learn More
